The Engaged Brains Project

made possible by Reid Fellowship for Healthcare Transformation by The Foundation of FirstHealth

Dementia often results in isolation, and those affected are not provided enough science-based education, skills training, community resources and support.

THE ENGAGED BRAINS PROJECT by Neuropsychologist Karen D. Sullivan, PhD, ABPP and  Occupational Therapist Teepa Snow and her Positive Approach to CareĀ® team will change that.

By applying a community-wide, person-centered approach to dementia education and care, we will reduce the unnecessary distress and disability that has become synonymous with these diagnoses.

Using a philosophy of RADICAL ENGAGEMENT,our project will provide a one-year (sept. 2024-sept. 2025), public training program in the Village of Pinehurst, NC to increase DEMENTIA KNOWLEDGE, CARE SKILLS, AND SUPPORT with the goal of CULTURE CHANGE in dementia care. There is no charge to participate in the training thanks to a generous gift from a community member.

We are determined to REDUCE THE SOCIAL STIGMA of brain health challenges, INCREASE ACCESS for an early and accurate dementia diagnosis, and TRAIN all direct care dementia providers in   PERSON-CENTERED CARE

We will then measure the impact of our efforts using healthcare-system data analytics from FirstHealth of the Carolinas and share our results with the world.

Our goal is to prove that we CAN modernize dementia care with the support of community and philanthropy.

IT JUST TAKES A VILLAGE.
